Depot Hill is located adjacent the Fitzroy River, with scenic views being one of its popular attractions. It has various boat ramps allowing access for the avid fisherman. It is also close to transport, with the one of Queensland Rail's major passenger depo's being located in this suburb. It also has a Depot Hill State School in the area, providing academic opportunities for kids up to age 12. It is home to the heritage listed Rockhampton Railway Workshop, which is where the broken down trains were sent to be fixed, a great place to check out for a bit of local history.
